Reasons to Remodel the Guest Room
After we remodeled the guest room in our first home, I realized there are basically two reasons to remodel your guest room.
The first one is that remodeling the guest room is relatively inexpensive. You won't have to spend thousands of dollars to remodel the guest room and to enjoy the outcome. Unlike a kitchen or bathroom remodeling project -- which could easily cost a few thousand dollars -- to remodel a guest room you will see great results with just a few hundred dollars.
The second reason to remodel your guest room is that it is quite easy to do. Guest rooms are usually small to mid size rooms, and to remodel a guest room is easy to manage. It will not require major project planning. In fact, you can do all your own planning and execution of the remodeling plan. Remodeling the guest room is one of those truly do-it-yourself projects.
The Rewards of Remodeling the Guest Room
When you remodel a guest room, you can really feel good about it. Not just because the remodeling of the guest room was successful but, simply because you remodeled the guest room for some one else, not for yourself. Usually that some one else who will enjoy the remodeled guest room is some one you care about - a dear friend or family. That makes it doubly pleasurable to remodel.
Tips on How to Remodel the Guest Room
Look at your guest room, and decide which one of the following items are needed to remodel the guest room at your home:
Paint - If you decide to paint as part of the remodeling of the guest room, go for warm colors. Stay away from bright and white. White is very impersonal, and bright colors are not restful.
Floor - When you remodel the guest room, you want to make sure the carpet looks good. A clean nice looking carpet makes a big difference in the appearance of a remodeled guest room. You have three choices on how to go about the carpet in remodeling the guest room. One is to lease the carpet-cleaning machine from a store, and give the carpet a thorough wet cleaning. The other is to hire one of the carpet cleaning places to do it. The third one comes into play when the carpet is in bad shape.
To remodel a guest room that has an ugly old carpet, replace it with a nice smooth carpet, or with wood flooring and then add an area rug. Remember, remodeling the guest room with new flooring will be relatively inexpensive, since you're dealing with a small to mid-size room.
Window Dressing - As part of your "Remodel the Guest Room Project" you might want to change the curtains. Stay away from blinds. They make the guest room look like a doctor's waiting room. Dressing up the windows with new curtains that complement the paint and the flooring, will make the final touches of your remodeling project a great success.
