Avoiding the Need for File Recovery

Avoiding the Need for File Recovery
Rather than going to the trouble and expense of paying out vast sums of money for a suite of file recovery programs, it would be more sensible to avoid the need all together.
File Recovery is Most Often Needed after a Virus Attack.
Because the greatest need for file recovery comes after a virus attack it makes sense to have a good anti-virus software installed on your computer. Anti-virus systems do need to be updated regularly so that they know which malicious threats they should be safeguarding your computer against. The growing number of viruses rises at an hourly ratio and it makes sense to keep your antivirus software as current as possible and able to safeguard your machine from every threat.
Run your antivirus software on a daily basis, or more regularly if you think that is appropriate, and always scan any new storage media that you are introducing to your computer.
The risk of virus attack, and the need for file recovery that comes after a virus attack, can also be reduced by the installation of a firewall.
Those People Who Backup Important Files Seldom Need File Recovery.
The need for file recovery can be avoided if a sensible backup regime has been adopted. Admittedly, there is always some data loss involved if a user has to "go back to backup" but in these circumstances the amount is usually negligible. Regular backup regimes are best performed if they are utilizing a system where information is stored off site. Daily backups are one of the most efficient methods of keeping stored data safe and current but more frequent options are available.
Obviously, as well as backing up data, it makes sense to check the integrity of the information that is being backed up. There is little sense in making repeated copies of a file if it already has an issue that would be better addressed by file recovery. In these circumstances it might not be possible to avoid the need for some sort of file recovery.
File Recovery Isn't Only Needed to Resolve Damaged Software.
Damage to storage media is another are that often necessitates file recovery. Floppy discs and storage tapes are susceptible to damage from strong electromagnetic currents. These can include magnetic radiation from certain trains, TV sets, refrigerators and even some older computer monitors. It clearly makes sense to avoid any of these sources if important files are stored on any vulnerable media.
All storage media is also vulnerable to damage from fire, flood, theft and a variety of ills that can corrupt or destroy valuable data.
All storage media should be transported with due care and attention and kept in a safe and secure location.
The need for file recovery can be avoided. File recovery can be an expensive process and, all too often it becomes a necessity when it is most inconvenient. But, by using antivirus software, a firewall and a regular backup regime; and by avoiding unnecessary risks with hardware, the need for file recovery might never have to occur.
