Computer Backup for Important Files
For those who don't wish to do a full system backup on their computer, there is always the option of simply backing up important files. Obviously, in the situation of a major system crash, all files can seem like they are important. But, for the majority of computer users, various files are going to take precedence over others in the need for restoration.
These can be word documents that include important projects, spreadsheets with vital financial or statistical information, or databases that hold those all important contact details. In a situation where data loss of any kind has occurred, it will most likely be files of these types that users immediately want to retrieve and restore.
Custom Computer Backups are Quicker.
Before starting a custom computer backup it is necessary to learn where those files that are important to you are located. The first screens of any computer backup program that can perform a custom backup ask where the target files are located. On Windows operating systems these are usually located within directories or folders. However, unlike the old DOS based systems, where every word needed typing into the screen to ensure the target backup file was located, directories, folders and files can be selected from drop down menus and other user friendly screens.
You should also be aware of where you are backing up to. Custom computer backups are a lot faster and, because a full system isn't being rewritten, this means they can be stored on comparatively small backup media. Word processing documents and spreadsheets can often be backed up to a single floppy disc. Folders or directories of photographs can be safely stored to a single CD in the majority of cases. The same is true of modest sized databases and many audio files.
Custom Computer Backups May Need More Attention.
Because custom computer backups are dealing with the most important files on your computer, it is quite likely that these are files that might need copying on a more frequent basis. Those who work laboriously on a word or text document will value the effort they have put in. A day's repeated labor is not something anyone wants to endure, so it might be advisable to backup more frequently than only on a daily basis.
Depending on your office filing system, information that is used to complete spreadsheets might be destroyed or made unavailable after it the data has been input. In these circumstances it is vital that a backup be made straight away after each major input of data and before the original material is lost forever. If original material is destroyed or lost, the chances of retrieving that information are gone forever if you have to go back to a previously performed backup.
Custom Computer Backups are Efficient.
Custom computer backups are an efficient way of storing very important files very quickly and very easily. As always though, once a backup has been taken, the storage media should be kept somewhere safe and secure.
