Angling
Mark
This marks the end of the
coastline in the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board area. It is
located 5 kms north west of Ballyheigue. There is a left hand
fork off the main road. Follow the road until it narrows to a
track. You may park your vehicle here. A 400m walk north west
leads to a rocky outcrop. Access can be difficult in wet
conditions, so care should be taken. This is an excellent spot
for ballan wrasse to 5lbs. There is also opportunity to spin for
mackerel, pollack and bottom fish for dogfish, bull huss and
conger over rough ground using fish as bait. All stages of the
tide are suitable. These rocks should not be approached in
onshore winds or heavy swells, be very careful and check the
weather forecast.
Bait
Bait can be
collected in the Cashen Estuary. In the estaury there is a lane
or small road which leads to the northern shore at the old ferry
crossing. Three hundred meters to the left and across a small
field is a good location for peeler crab under the weedy banks in
the muddy backwater. The thick mud here can be difficult to dig.
