Volunteer, Community Forestry

IIRR's Regional Center for Asia in partnership and through Voluntary Services Overseas(VSO) would like to recruit a critical thinking volunteer with excellent written and spoken English skills for 2 years to work with community forestry related Participatory Action Research(PAR). Documentation of lessons and documentation skills development will be at the crux of the work. The commencement date of the position is as soon as possible.

What kind of work would the volunteer carry out?


The volunteer will be attached to IIRR's community forestry research project team and will be working with other staff at IIRR as well as with partners to strive to advance Community Forestry using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach as a means to effect meaningful change in the lives of forest dependent communities. The volunteer is expected to develop analytical papers of publishable quality documenting key insights generated through the project's activities, and contribute to building internal capacities in appropriate research methods, analytical documentation, and production of analytical research papers.

What kind of person do we want?

The volunteer should have the following qualifications:

Educational/professional background: Rural Development/ Participatory Action Research/ Community Based Natural Resources Management.

Specific skills: Track record of writing critical/analytical material of publishable quality and preferably some mentoring/training experience; experience on participatory approaches and qualitative research methods.

Attitude: Able to take initiative, and as there will be extensive team work and interaction; excellent communication/listening skills and good general social skills.
In addition, we need someone with a high degree of maturity, initiative and flexibility. The volunteer will be prepared to work, often stay and learn with and from community members as well as various National Resource Management professionals.
