Thinking of starting a home based business? Great, you can start by thinking up a new catchy, memorable and meaningful name for your new baby - your brand new home based business! And don't underestimate the power of a good name for your business - it makes a whole lot of difference. Think branding is way to sophisticated for your small itty bitty home based business? There's where you're wrong. And you cannot afford to be wrong from the start. A great name begins with a great brand.
Think, first, about how you want your customers/clients to look at you, look at your home based business. Efficient. Speedy. Reliable? That's too general. How about unique, creative, individualistic? Thta's better. Now, if that is how you want people to look at your home based business, you want them to hear the word and think of you, right? Right-o.
Brainstorm for the Name
You don't need to have 4 or 10 people around you in order to brainstorm. Sitting in the bathroom thinking is also considered brainstorming, for your information. The best way is for you to sit down with a piece of paper and pen in front of you. Think of how you want people to feel when they hear the name. Write down the words that pops up in your mind.
Related Words and Phrases for Your Home Based Business
Then, you can start thinking about related words and phrases derived from the words you have written down earlier. For instance, creative. Then think of phrases....like Let the Juices Flow....or something like that. If you have problems thinking of any, then dig out the thesaurus and dictionary from the attic and flip through.
A Name with a Difference
You don't want just any name, do you? If you do, you can stop right here because you probably have a few names in your mind at this stage. But if you want more, run through some Greek or Latin versions of the words you have written down. Think about colours, gems, stones, animals, artifacts, history, plants...etc.
A Combination Name for Your Home Based Business
If you have more than 10 words or expressions and phrases written down, you should be able to start combining some of them together. Just be creative and experiment with the combinations. Say it and roll it around your tongue to see how it feels to say it.
Reflect on It
Now that you have a few GOOD names in your list, you can start reviewing them by testing it out and see how you feel about it when you hear it. Or better still, call your spouse, cousin, sister, mother, father...etc and ask them how they feel when they hear the new name for your home based business.
And here are a few other things to remember too, after you've decided on the name. Check trademarks, domain names, company names (the Secretary of State) to see if another company is already using the name, check assumed names, register the name, trademark it if you want and get the domain name before someone else does!
