International Eudcation Week 2004: Last year, FTE helped the US Department of Education launch International Education Week with a video-conference between Secretary Rod Paige with students at Cardozo High School in Washington, DC and Education Ministry officials and students in Egypt, Mexico and South Africa. In 2004, FTE and iEARN will sponsor an interactive dialogue between iEARN educators from 10 countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, Indonesia, Pakistan, Oman, India, Nepal and Bangladesh) with teachers and students in the Washington, DC area at the US Department of Education from 9:30 - 11:00 am on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004. iEARN and the DoE will partner with the World Affairs Council of Washington, DC and KidzOnline to provide a video broadcast of the event on the WWW. Global Learn Day to be November 21! FTE member Global SchoolNet is again co-organizing this annual event--a 24-hour, non-stop online event. Global Learn Day, now in its 8th year, is a worldwide celebration to showcase the very best international education activities – from AROUND THE WORLD!

In 2002, the U.S. Department of Education and Friendship through Education co-hosted a First Anniversary Celebration and New Project Launch on November 19, 2002 at the U.S. Department of Education Auditorium. Under Secretary Hickok welcomed the audience and Secretary Paige delivered the opening message.

Kids collaborate by sharing their messages of hope, support and condolences in response to the September 11, 2001 "Attack on America" tragedy. Groups of kids from Uzbekistan sent images of hope to their friends in the United States.
