The Tiga Tiga Hotel, almost right across the street
from the bus station (4 minutes walk), is perhaps the
only place in Indonesia where a man and a woman may
not share a room if their last names aren't the same
in their passports. Rp300 for dorm beds (mixed sexes)
or Rp350 per person in your own dingy room. The dorm
is in the back overlooking a flooded garden of banana
trees and a kampung; nice sunsets. Mosquitos are horrendous,
but coils are provided. Although many travelers gravitate
to the Tiga Tiga, Hotel Candrawasih, right next door
at JI. Pemuda 27, Rp500 single, Rp1000 double, has better
vibes and better rooms, though perhaps it's noisier.
Also a travel agent here. More comfortable than either
of these is Hotel Sriwijaya, JI. Alang Lawas 15, Rp600
single, Rp1200 double. Down a quiet street, a safe,
comfortable, clean hotel, Rp100 by bendi from the city
center. Hotel Machudum near the market on JI. Hilagoo
45, is Rp1500-4500 double, Rp500-3750 single; a little
plush but has a good restaurant. Hotel Melati, JI. Hilagoo
32, is Rp400 single, Rp800 double; central, nondescript
but adequate. A friendly place on a back street is Hotel
Dahlia, JI. Jawa Dalam 3/5, Rp500 or Rp1000 double;
serves nasi campurs for Rp100. Grand Hotel, JI. Pondok
84, costs Rp1750 single to Rp2750 and Rp3900 double
(plus 10%); nice garden and very spacious and quiet
in the middle part. Meals at the Grand cost Rp1750 for
European food, Rp1500 for Indonesian food. Hotel Mariani
International, JI. Bundo Kandung 25, is Rp3750. Hotel
Aldilla, JI. Damar 1/2, costs Rp3000. Hotel Jakarta,
J I. Belakang Olo 57, is Rp2500.
