Some of the TOP Hotels in Bali

Bali's most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation, shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged every night of the week and the streets are full of arts-and-crafts galleries.

diving for sunken wrecks Riau is one of the few places in the world where you can dive for wrecks without a great outlay of money. Hire snorkling and scuba equipment, and maybe even a boat from the Indonesian navy. Kosional Unit, in the green building on the waterfront. See Major Sihombing. Pulau Mantang has a stunning coral reef and a 15,000 ton British freighter sunk by the Japanese, 28 m below water. Also excellent fishing. Pulau Pompong is only 35 km from the equator with no people living on it. There are 3 wrecks here, all about 18 m underwater: Kurala, Tunkuang, and the Kuangwo, all sunk trying to escape from Singapore during WW II. Very favorable conditions for underwater photography here. At the southern end of the uninhabited island of Pulau Abang lies a large freighter, sunk during the last war, that still contains some of its cargo. It's a good dive site, the depth ranging from 6-18 m. All around the island are coral reefs and many small coves and beaches.
