1st International AMBER Plan Success Story

Canada
Montreal, Quebec
July 14, 2003

A 17-year-old girl was abducted by her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend after she decided to end their relationship. The man threatened the girl with a knife and forced her into her father's car. A neighbor witnessed the abduction and contacted authorities. When authorities found that the suspect had a criminal record, an AMBER Alert was issued throughout Quebec. A citizen heard the Alert on the radio, noticed the stolen vehicle was right in front of him, and quickly dialed 9-1-1. The suspect was captured and arrested, and the girl was safely recovered.
