Angling
Mark
Two miles to the west side
of Kildysart village is a fresh laid track which gives access
to the shoreline and quays. Several Shannon tugs are based there
in the deep water berths. Fishing from the eastern end of the
quay produces bull huss, thornback ray, conger, dogfish and
freshwater eels. The fishing is consistent at all stages of the
tide and mackerel, crab and freshwater eel are the best baits.
Bull huss to over 10lbs are taken regularly. These big fish are
difficult to lift up the quay wall and so it is imperative that
anglers carry a drop net with them. Development works have been
undertaken on this quay in the relatively recent past, so the
fishing location may have changed since. Please check this
locally.
Bait
Bait can be
collected at Shannakea Beach. Parking can be located at the end
of this track. At low water, soft and peeler crab can be
collected under the patches of weed in a 200 meter stretch below
the access point There is another location at a road bridge about
1 km on the Kilrush side of Kildysart village. Beyond the bridge
is a left turn down a track which has two gates. Parking is on
either side of the causeway. Soft and peeler crab can be gathered
under the patches of weed on either side of the causeway.
