Consider Power Backup

In spite of all the technological advances in the world, the power outage is still one of the major causes of business downtime and the need for power backup. An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) should be part of protecting your computer systems, as well as part of your overall total recovery solution. In addition, a power management software package should be considered necessary if an extended power outage requires power backup. The power management software can help prevent data corruption.

Power Backup Emergency

Power outages can be experienced at any time of the year. Summer, spring, winter, or fall the season doesn't matter when it comes to a power outage. These outages not only send emergency crews dashing about they also send affected businesses and their respective Information Technology teams rushing about as well, especially if they do not have power backup in place.

For many of theses businesses the situation is a lost cause. Many have never bothered to backup their data so the data that the power outage corrupts is not longer available. A data Backup at this point is futile. These companies usually have no choice but to completely power down as what little backup they had dwindled.

Power Backup is Essential

Look around your work place. If you are located in a typical office building you will notice emergency lighting along with exit signs at strategic points within the offices and the shared corridor/elevator space. These emergency lights are considered a source of power backup in case of a power outage. This type of lighting is usually part of a city building cod for public spaces. If the ceiling fixtures go out the emergency lighting is there to guide you out of the building.

Makes sense doesn't it? So why doesn't your company have some type of power backup for your computer systems? It would make sense, wouldn't it?

Not only should your company have a backup power supply, there should also be a disaster recovery plan in place as well. A power outage affects every aspect of a business. With or without a power supply the show must go on. A disaster recovery plan lays out the way your company can make that happen.

The disaster recovery plan should include procedures to keep your data safe with a backup plan and it should also include emergency power sources and security of your company and its people. Remember when a power outage occurs your security systems can be affected as well.

Power Backup Alternatives

Purchasing a power backup system may or may not be the right answer for your company. Consider a disaster recovery service as part of your recovery and backup plan. These companies offer the ability to fully mirror your network and data structures. This means that your data is available in another location if the original is unusable or needs recovery. These services can pull you out of the power outage hole quickly with out you ever having to purchase a power backup.
