Protecting Mobile Data with Backup Exec
Backup Exec recognizes that not all data is stored equally. Backup Exec knows that users often have more than one desktop, whether it is a traditional desktop or a mobile desktop or laptop, synchronization of data in a safe and protected manner. Through a network share the user can access data that is up to date and fresh. A user may also access their own data files no matter which desktop they are at. Backup Exec has the flexibility to backup data at manual, scheduled, periodic, or at a continuous production level.
Backup Exec and Mobile Use
One of the latest additions to Backup Exec is the Desktop and Laptop Option available to Windows Servers. A dedicated server is not necessary to run this option. Its simple plan allows it to be integrated into existing architectures, infrastructures and network policies easily. The Desktop and Laptop Option uses all existing storage media. This allows for no additional hardware to be purchased for the installation or use of the option. The bottom line is lowered cost and less hassle and training for personnel.
Once the option software is installed on the laptop, the product can offer continuous disk based backup and protection of data and allows the user data backup whether at the office or on the road.
Conflict resolution and detection is part of the option. If a file is modified at two points, one on the desktop and one on the laptop, the next times the laptop connects to the network the conflict will be detected and the user prompted.
Backup Exec Security
Backup Exec Desktop and Laptop Option contains the cutting edge options for your data security. All servers are accessed through domain authentication. All desktops and laptops using the option and Backup Exec must be a part of a Windows domain before backup can occur.
Encryption is also part of the Backup exec security plan. This setting is an option that must be enabled. The encryption occurs to the files only and the files are stored encrypted. All file names, directory names and attributes are stored without encryption. All encryption is at the file level. Each user is assigned his own encryption key that is stored by the agent, on its first connection, in the option database.
Backup Exec As a Data Protection Tool
Critical data is now part of the landscape of business and the technology that supports business. Being able to synchronize and backup data from all available tools and from users spread far and wide gives a business environment some assurance as to their data's health and currency. Backup Exec, and its Desktop and Laptop Option, is a dynamic and comprehensive protection solution for all company data.
IT departments and managers know that with Backup Exec they can easily protect, restore, and recover data as the environment calls for. The administrative console provides the window the administrator needs to view a summary status of the network and the attached devices. The administrator knows who his mobile users are and whether they are synchronizing successfully.
