What is a Low Apr on a Credit Card?

APR, in reference to credit cards, means "Annual Percentage Rate". It's always better to get a low APR. When talking about credit cards, an easier to understand term is interest rate. Your APR is your interest rate on your credit card. Each month, when you receive your bill, the amount you have charged on your credit card will be multiplied by your APR, or interest rate, and that amount will be added to what you owe. This means that by using your credit card, you are also paying extra money for the service on top of what you pay for the actual purchases you make.

How Do I Know If My Credit Card Has a Low Apr?

Check around and compare the APR's on other credit cards to the APR on your credit card. Do you find that your APR is higher than most others? If so, then you have a high APR. If yours is lower, then you are lucky! You APR is going to determine how much interest you are paying on your purchases. Think of your credit card as a continuous loan. On a loan, you pay interest. Your credit card works the same way, just on a smaller scale, and shorter term. Did you buy a new television last month? You are going to pay interest on that television until you have paid the full balance owed.

Every credit card has an APR. In order to find the lowest possible APR, you need to make sure that you apply for the right kinds of cards, and make sure your credit health is optimized. Improving your credit score is a quick way to qualify for credit cards with a low APR.

How Do I Get a Credit Card with a Low Apr?

You must first apply for a credit card online. Before applying, make sure to read the relevant information to find out the range of APR's offered on that particular credit card. Some will be higher than others. Often, the credit card company will have a range of APR's they offer. The higher your credit score, the lower your APR will be. If you have a bad credit score, then the APR you will get on your credit card may be higher.

To get the lowest possible APR, find a credit card issuer with a range of APR's starting very low. It is also beneficial to find a company whose upper limit APR is lower than all others. This ensures that even if you do not get the lowest APR they offer, you will still get an APR on your credit card lower than you could find with most other credit card companies.

Finding the lowest APR available to you will save you a lot of money over time. Your purchases will cost you closer to what you pay in the store, rather than the price being inflated by a high interest rate.
