Uninterruptible Battery Backup

An uninterruptible battery backup system or power source (UPS) requires no further action than to plug it in properly. This type of backup power source has no transfer switch to flip when an electrical outage occurs. It is a backup and the current automatically picks up where the electrical outlet no longer can. It is always on and generating internally within the battery backup. This provides peace of mind and protection of your data and software.

Battery Backup Characteristics

The sudden electrical outage can damage your computer network and the data it is holding. The damage occurs when the system actually comes back on line or is powered back up. If the system is not powered down properly when it is turned back on there can be wide spread corruption of data and files.

To prevent this from occurring and to give the user some time to realize what has happened a battery backup extends the power to the computer and it's peripherals for an extended amount of time. The time it extends depends on the product you purchase. A time extension allows the user to shut the computer down properly and remove its connection to the outlet preventing the possibility of any damage.

A true uninterruptible battery backup supplies 100% of the load so there is no downtime. An uninterruptible battery backup source fully protects the computer from all transparent problems on the building utility line because it is its own continuous, independently regenerated output.

Backup Battery Essentials

The most essential feature to assure fail-safe backup is the automatic bypass. This bypass provides security against actual failure within the battery backup source. This bypass avoids single point of failure and increases the overall reliability of the system. A bypass option allows the system to automatically deal with unusually high start-up current requirements. It does so by quickly starting the load on bypass.

If the battery backup is designed intelligently then it can move the load t bypass if it detects any abnormal events like high temperature conditions or internal and external damage to the battery backup.

Battery Backup Extras

There are some extras your battery backup could come with. The ability to add additional battery backup packs to extend reserve time is one of them. This ability can allow a user to finish what they are working on and then be able to shutdown the computer properly.

An online uninterruptible battery backup source is made for extended use. Its parts have been designed with this ability in mind. An online power supply is different from a standby power supply and is able to handle the stress when the load is suddenly switched.

There is a difference in the two products, online versus standby, and while you are researching your purchase you will need to find out what your products offer. The online power supply battery backup will cost you more but that is because it does more. It is a self contained battery backup source and not just a standby source.
