What Can Credit Card Service Do for My Small Business?

Credit card service can increase your customer base dramatically. Every day, thousands of people shop with their credit card. Many people use their credit cards exclusively. If you do not have the capability to accept credit cards, you are hobbling your chances of success right from the start! Being able to use a credit card in a store makes it faster, and much easier, on the customer.

They won't have to hold the line up writing a check, or fumble through their wallet or purse looking for cash and change. Instead, they swipe their credit card, sign a slip of paper, and the whole process is done. Quick and efficient. Being able to accept credit cards can be one of the biggest boosts possible to your business.

How Can I Get a Credit Card Service?

If you are not sure where to inquire about getting a credit card machine, try asking some of the local business owners. Most will be happy to help you out (assuming you are not competition). They can direct you to a local business, or perhaps an online web site, that can assist you in getting the machinery and information required to begin accepting credit card payments.

If there are no local businesses that can help you, or will help you, then there is always the internet. Try using a search engine to find web sites about "credit card service". You can also try looking for "Merchant credit card service". Somewhere in the stacks of results there will be a company that can help you receive everything you need to set up your business for credit card payments.

Another place to check is with your local Chamber of Commerce. They have all sorts of information for businesses, and someone there is bound to know how you can begin operating credit card acceptance machines in your business.

How Does a Credit Card Service Work?

When you apply for a credit card service, you will be set up with an account. This account is what is used to transfer payments between your customers and you. When someone is in line and uses their credit card, their information is transmitted to a processing center. The processing center then analyzes the data and determines if the credit card is valid. If it is, then it sends information back to your machine telling you the transaction is approved.

After this is completed, the processing center withdraws the transaction amount from the customers credit card account. The money is then transferred to your bank account, minus a small fee (usually 1-3%). This fee is what is charged to you for using their service. In a few days time, the money will appear in your bank account. The process is completed!

There is the matter of the small fee for transactions, but, if you weigh it against the increased amount of business you will find, then the small fee is obviously worth it!
