Credit Card Deals for Students
A Credit Article Contributed by Kris Griebe
I Recently Became a Full Time Student, are There Credit Card Deals out There for Me?
Anyone can find a credit card deal that will help them, if they look in the right places. Fortunately for you, being a student, the deals are easy to find. Doing a simple internet search for "credit card student" will return you hundreds of websites offering credit cards to students with special deals. The real trick is selecting which deal will best suit your needs, and then finding the best card with the appropriate deal.
You can also go to many of your local financial institutions and find deals for students. One possibility might be a card on a bank account that can give you a bank card with a Visa logo which lets you use the card like a credit card except that it withdraws the money directly from your bank account, rather than sending you a bill(similar to a secured credit card). Another option would be to go to your local student financial aid center. Often the offices will have information on receiving a student credit card that can aid you during your career as a student.
What Kinds of Deals Can a Student Get on a Credit Card?
There are many types of deals out there available to students who wish to obtain a credit card. One of the more popular choices is a textbook rebate. Many credit card companies offer student credit cards that will save you money when purchasing your textbooks, and some even waive the interest rate on purchases made for textbooks.
Another deal to look for on a student credit card is a flexible payment schedule. Many companies understand the rigors of student life, especially a student's financial life. As college tuitions rise, students find it harder and harder to make ends meet with their part time jobs during school. Because of this, many credit card companies will work with you so that you can make a reduced payment for a month, so long as you make up the difference on your next payment.
Student credit cards can also carry lower APR's than other credit cards. This is set in place by the credit card company to not only make the card more appealing to students, but to aid them in saving as much money as possible. The APR will stay low as long as you are enrolled (sometimes as a part time student, other times as a full time student). All you need do is send them proof you are a still a student at a regular interval. Once every semester is a standard time period by which your credit card company will require proof of your enrollment.
As a Student, is It Important That I Find a Good Credit Card Deal?
Because you can save a lot of money, YES! It is important and it is certainly beneficial. Not only will you benefit from the great deals offered to students but you'll also be developing your credit history. That, in itself is a great deal!
