When it comes to ecommerce it's easy to find an opportunity to generate advertising for your home base business without putting out any money. Here are several:
Exchange - an Opportunity to Grow Your Home Base Business
You can barter. Find a site whose audience may welcome your advertising message (a business related to yours but not a competitor) and offer to trade your products or services with them. If, for instance, you are a home base business writer, advertising on a site that offers printing services may be the opportunity for you to get to those folks who most need your services. Offer to write web copy for the printer in exchange for your ad.
You can participate in an exchange of text links. A little more complicated than a simple barter, this often involves several sites whose business owners create a group opportunity for themselves and other entrepreneurs, home base or otherwise. The site owners set up exchange credit values for text links. In other words, they may decide how many links or how many clicks on each link equals how many credits towards use of each others' products or services.
While not as dynamic as banners, a text link has proven to generate a greater ratio of views to responses. This may be a good opportunity for a home base entrepreneur to generate business.
Banners and Buttons As Home Base Business Opportunity
A Button exchange is another business advertising opportunity that involves no money exchange. Similar to a text exchange, its advantage over text is that it is more eye-catching than the text link. The negative is that the response is not as great - perhaps because it takes longer to upload, especially on dial-up.
A banner exchange is somewhat different, in that the exchange is uncomplicated and straightforward - you get to display your product or service as a button on their site and they get to display their product or service as a button on your site. If you participate in a banner exchange network, your banner may alternate between sites or be displayed on several at once.
Again, as in button and text exchanges it may work as a credit system, with stronger (more visits) sites creating an uneven exchange. For instance, your banner may display on theirs half as often as your are required to display theirs on yours. This is fair, though, since twice as many visitors are looking at your advertising message when you have your banner on their site as are looking at their banner when they display it on your site.
Web Ring - This is pretty straightforward. You partner with similar, though not competitive sites, to have folks who visit your site automatically paged from one site to the next. If for instance, you sell handmade greeting cards you may want to partner with a florist, a cookie delivery site and a party planner. Use your imagination. There are few rules for this type of barter - or for any, for that matter. And the ones there are are, as the saying goes, made to be broken.
