A Need for a Domain Name

When the first registry for a Domain name was founded it seemed as if the names would be endless. The internet pioneers imagined it would take a long time for those domain names to run the gambit of expression. In one sense they were right, however, it seems that many businesses are hard pressed to find a good domain name for their business. They come up with what they think would be the solution- to use their business name. This is not merely good enough. In most cases the business name is simply too long to be a useful web address from a marketing strategy point of view.

Tips for the Domain Name Search

This is where the creative team needs to come in and actively create something that will be both viable and available. The team needs to look at three crucial elements. The first of these is length of your web address.

The domain name chosen will either entice web surfers to take a peek or it will be a hindrance. Unless you feel you will have the ultimate marketing plan, and can bring surfers into your domain with ads and clicking alone, then length of your address will be a factor for careful consideration. Second on the list of essential factors is readability, if a consumer can read the address they are more likely to remember it and go to it by typing it in. Gibberish just won't do for marketing your domain name.

Third is the creativity factor, people are usually drawn to something unusual and creative. A domain name that leads someone into their imagination or urge to action will draw them into the domain- knowing information about the site or not. People are curious by nature and will be caught by the shiny object that is your domain name.

Small Business Be Wary of Copycat Domain Names

Copycat domain names can be easily obtained for those small businesses who do not know how it can be done. One way in which your name can be duplicated is by using the same name under a different address. For example, you decide on www MySite.com, however, you don't purchase the .net,.org,.tv, etc. that the name may be used under. If you look at this and do not think it will be issue, fine. Just be aware that it can be done.

Another way a copycat can be done is by spelling the name just slightly different so that it sounds the same phonetically but spelled different. In the example of www MySite.com it would be copycatted as www MySyte.com. Again, this may not matter to your small business. If you do have the capital though you might want to seriously think of closing as many copycat options as possible and linking them to your main webpage.

This gives your business the best of both worlds, greater marketing options and it eliminates confusion on where your website is. Copycatting is interesting because it gives us an obstacle that actually leads to better solutions for the company.
