Home Business Mommy

Being a working mother can come with a lot of guilt, even if you do have a home business. All kinds of thoughts can run through your head, like, should you be playing with your child instead of at the computer? You worry if you are doing all you can for your child, if they are getting enough attention from you. At times it's maddening trying to find a balance between your home business and your children.

It doesn't have to be, though.

Here are some tips on how to deal with the pressures of raising children while having a home business.

Time for Your Home Business and Time for Kids

Time is everything when it comes to spending time with your children. So ask yourself:

What time of day can you take a breaks from my home business, while still feeling relaxed? Right before you start working? Right after lunch? These breaks while you feel relaxed will make for a more welcomed time for your child.

Even if the only time you have for a break is after you finish a long stretch of work, your kids will still benefit from it, as long as you don't cut the time too short. Take about 15 minutes with each child and talk with them about things that interest them. Talk about the day, talk about tomorrow, how they are feeling, talk about how much you love them, etcetera.

Check Your Home Business Priorities

Before you can schedule a time to spend with your child you must first try to figure out your priorities for the day. Figure out what things in your home business can be put off or simplified so you can have more time to spend with your child.

Do you need to write that email or can it wait until morning? Is there a way you could simplify your morning routine so that you can have breakfast together and talk? Try to have at least one meal at the table instead of at the computer.

Decide what amount of time you want to invest in your children. Usually quantity doesn't matter as long as you have plenty of quality. To fit in as much quality time as you can into the average day, show your child that you are interested in her thoughts. When they disturb you while you are working on your home business, listen to what they have to say. Then, give them some feedback. Make them feel that even though Mommy is busy she still loves her kid. A pat on the head or a warm hug before turning back to the computer can mean a lot.

During the day, try to keep an eye out for articles in newspapers, magazines, or on the Internet that may interest her and use it to start conversations at the dinner table, or print off coloring sheets that the child can do for "work" while you work. Make the child feel like you think about them even when you are working at your home business.
