The Network for English Acquisition and Reading Star Schools Program (NEARStar) is an interactive, Web-based multimedia supplemental reading program designed for students who are in the beginning stages of both reading and oral language development. NEARStar’s unique teaching method merges reading skill instruction with early English language development, specifically linking what students can understand to what they are presented with in print.

Students access engaging activities, animated chants and songs, and interactive online books that provide repeated exposure and focused practice to learn the lesson’s featured vocabulary words and phonics skills. NEARStar’s components align with national standards and include a link for the classroom teacher to instantly access student reports, which provide customized professional development recommendations based on student needs.
