Credit Repair - Let's Define It

Credit Repair is, in essence, the cleaning up and renewal of your bad credit record, rating and history. In the consumerist age in which we live, many people find themselves drawn into a web of bad debt and credit, spiraling out of control and deeper into bad credit ratings. Credit Repair means identifying where you have gone wrong and attempting to move out of the red and into the black.

How Do I Start Repairing My Credit?

Although getting yourself out of a bad credit situation may seem impossible and exhausting, be assured that there are viable ways of doing it. Get your mind right and prepare to get rid of those credit blues so you can kick-start your credit rating with a clean slate! To start the credit repair process simply decide whether you want to repair your credit rating on your own or with professional help.

Beware of the Credit Repair Crooks!

If you decide to go the route of professional help, we advise you to use common sense, follow your instincts and not to pay attention to any companies whose behavior or requirements may seem dubious or questionable. We advise you to seek the services of a reputable credit repair association, who are registered and have a track record to prove their effectiveness. Your bad credit situation cannot simply be repaired overnight no matter what they may promise.

There are specific processes and practices that need to be followed in order for the repairs to start, from there it is a long and involved process. We recommend that you find a company that has offices and a good reputation in your town rather than going through an internet based company who may turn out to be crooks!

According to the Credit Repair Organizations Act, consumers should watch out for the following:

- Do not be convinced into making ANY false statements about yourself or your credit situation

- Do not make any attempt to change your identity or name to avoid the bad credit situation

- Do not submit any payment in advance of the services. Only pay once your credit has been cleared.

Repair Your Credit Situation Yourself

Obtain your credit report from your local credit bureau, in return for a minimal fee or for free if you are unemployed. The credit bureau will help you by providing someone that will explain your credit report clearly to you. If you do not agree with what the credit report says, you may dispute this by notifying the credit bureau in writing. It is then their duty to rectify the situation and resolve your dispute.

Clearing Your Name!

Remember that you will have to change your entire credit behavior and practise if you really want to change your credit record and maintain a good credit name.

Consider seeking the advice of a credit counselor from a non-profit organization who will help rectify your bad credit situation through legal and proper means. They will give you advice on how to clear your name and how to spend your money better. Again, make sure that this is a reputable organization, look within your community for the right person who hand-in-hand will help you out of your financial mess.
