Unfortunately mistakes happen and yes even credit card companies can make them. If you find something reported by your credit card company you feel is not accurate there is something you can do about it.

One of the most commons errors that occurs is normally not the fault of the credit card company however. Normally charges you see that were not made by you are due to unauthorized use.

What Do I Do If My Credit Card is Stolen and There are Charges I Didn't Make?

By law you are only responsible for $50 of these unauthorized charges IF your card has been stolen and IF you call the lender before charges are made. When you get your credit card statement and see charges that you did not make you should contact your credit card issuer immediately. In this instance you may have to exercise your right to dispute option. In both cases your card can be canceled and a new one will be issued to you.

If you feel unauthorized purchases have been made to your account and you discover them when you receive your statement call the credit card issuer immediately. If you look on the back of your statement you will see Information about how to raise a dispute over the incorrect balance or charges. This information includes the mailing address to use. Please be aware that you only have 60 days to raises a dispute after your receive the statement. It will be settled as soon as possible

Important information to include when you send your dispute that will speed the process along includes the following: Your name and account number, the dollar amount in dispute, the reason for the your dispute and the merchant you feel overcharged you .
