Santiago Guide
One of the best parts of the city is its unique neighborhoods. Barrio Brasil holds the city's only basilica, surrounded by many statues. Also here is the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende, with artwork by famous Chilean artists. Children will be eager to visit this neighborhood as well, as it holds the famous Fantasilandia Children's Amusement Park. Barrio Bellavista is another charming neighborhood, and brings to life the essence of the city as it was centuries ago. If you visit Barrio Bellavista be sure to stop into the Cemetario General, as well as the Museo Neruda.
Santiago Centro holds most of the cities main sights. The historical Plaza de Armas contains museums, old buildings and the town hall. The Beautiful Catedral Metropolitana, built in 1745 is here, as is the Mercado Central or Central Market, the city's best place to sample local cuisine.
Traveling out of the main city is another great way to spend the day. Portillo is the best ski resort in Chili, and can be reached quickly from Santiago. Two hours north of Santiago is the Vina del Mar, a beautiful beach that families will love.
