When you come across an advertisement on the internet that sounds interesting, first scan it. This is your best way to find out if it is a scam.
Take a close look. If it has small print, that may be your first clue. Phrases like "Results may vary" or "Not typical customer" after a testimonial are also big warning signs.
Does the online business opportunity even list the company's name? It may be hiding it's name so that a prospective reader won't be able to call the Better Business Bureau.
Also, does the the online business opportunity ad just sound too amazing or is it claiming that you can make thousands a week? Or that you can do it all in your home with no training or education of any kind? If it sounds too good to be true, just pass on it.
Investigating the Online Business Opportunity
If the opportunity has passed these first at-first-glance tests, you may decide it needs further investigation.
If the online business opportunity offers a website address this is perfect opportunity to check out an iffy advertisement. Scam sites often have an overly long home page. It usually takes several minuets just to scroll to the bottom, let alone read the massive text. This can be where they hide catches. Though the most common place to put it is at the bottom of the text. It may ask for money so that you can start your business or for more information? You will know that it is a scam if it does.
If the advertisement offers a phone number make sure it is toll free and never call a number that isn't free, because the scam may simply be to collect from your phone. Sometimes the tip off that the ad is a scam is the way the company presents itself on the phone.Never give a the company your personal information unless you are positive they are on the up-and-up.
The Test of an Online Business Opportunity.
The most important test for any advertisement is how you feel about it, if it feels right. If you have a feeling that something is wrong, listen to it.
First, do you feel like it is worth your time, money and work and are the people involved with the advertisement well known? Can you check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the business is listed, or do you have a sneaky feeling the website or the person you contacted on the phone is not giving you information on the business?
