All leaders have vision and you need vision to be a small business entrepreneur. Not everyone with vision is a leader, but it is an important element in the recipe for leadership success. If you are a small business entrepreneur, you need to have the ability to dream and to see the future as you will seek to shape it. It's not enough to have that vision alone, you have to be able to share it with others.

Another ingredient in the recipe for leadership and success as a small business entrepreneur is a deep sense of obligation to the people you serve and to those who serve you. Commitment is critical if you want to become a good leader. It is especially critical if you want to lend your leadership talents to the development of your own small business. People recognize a lack of commitment quickly and it only takes one letdown to leave a bitter taste on the tongues of the people who trust you. The level of commitment you show to your customers is a sign of the respect you offer and expect.

Motivation Drives the Small Business Entrepreneur

Good leaders are motivated and know how to motivate others without making unreasonable demands and petty rules. They don't need to use intimidation to rouse the movers and shakers of the world, the movers and shakers of the world seek out good leaders and follow them while holding on to a strong line of trust and respect. Leaders gain the confidence and commitment of clients, workers and business associated by living as an example.

As a small business entrepreneur you will need to learn to share the fruits of your success through profit sharing, incentives, bonuses and tangible recognition of superior performance.

Good leaders foster and participate in social, cultural, recreational and community activities that don't benefit their bottom lines directly, but do promote a spirit of oneness and thus a spirit of pride and ownership reflected in a community.

As you move through the process of developing yourself as a small business entrepreneur and a leader you will find talents you didn't even know existed within you. You will also quickly identify your own weaknesses. Curiosity, balance, character and honesty are all traits of a good leader that you will develop as you shape yourself as a good leader in the business industry.

Leadership Qualities are Critical to the Success of the Small Business Entrepreneur

You don't have to be in charge in order to be a leader, and in fact, if you want to be a successful small business entrepreneur you learn to delegate authority and trust in the leaders you choose to represent you.

Expect to make some mistakes. But, be quick to correct them and to learn from them in order to grow. Before you launch a small business, evaluate your own interpersonal communication skills. Make a list of your leadership strengths and weaknesses and develop a strategic plan to hone leadership skills.
