My husband, Mark Rothfuss was stationed in Palau in 1973 with the Navy Seabee team. He spent almost a year there, building roads, schools and water treatment facilities, among other projects. He also spent hours with his scuba and snorkel gear-enjoying your beautiful oceans. My home is full of keepsakes and seashells that he sent home to me before our marriage. I have story boards, love sticks, clothing, baskets, and carved turtle shells. The turtle shells were carved by a gentleman who lost both hands when he was young-the result of a Japanese hand grenade I believe. We have boxes of pictures of your beautiful islands-and wonderful stories to go along with them. Alligator hunts on bamboo rafts, a pig roast on the beach, and wonderful rememberances of the people of Palau. We would love return there- though I am sure it has changed from when he was there. It is wonderful to see the beauty of the islands. |
