Basic Tips on How to Work at Home

Work at Home - Living the Dream

Since most people in the United States are employed by small businesses, it is now an unusually large leap to assume that many Americans dream of having the chance to work at home. For many, the chance to work at home, means a great level of autonomy and independence. For others being able to work at home means being able to better balance the needs of their families with those of earning a living.

There was a time, not that very long ago, that most every living person (except for explorers, soldiers, thieves, slaves, and mercenaries) worked from home. If that seems like a long list of exceptions, consider that even as recently as two hundred years ago, most people were farmers, laborers, herders, merchants, or artisans.

Only since the industrial revolution has the greater part of man and woman-kind left their homes, on a regular basis, to earn a living.

For many, returning to their homes is not a step backwards, but a leap forward in self-determination.

Work at Home Jobs

But so much has changed in two hundred years. We can't return to our farms. Today, the majority of farms are either massive conglomerates or large, family owned operations that require hundreds of thousands of dollars in heavy machinery just to operate.

So what kind of jobs can someone do at home and still make a decent wage. Here are the most popular, and most legitimate kinds of work that people can perform at home:

1. Medical Transcription

2. Typing / Data Entry

3. Writing / Copywriting / Editing

4. Accounting / Bookkeeping

5. Sales / Telemarketing

6. Financial Research / Investment

7. Online Tutoring / Instruction

8. Chat Line / Interactive Seminar Hosting

9. Arts / Crafts

10.Web Development / Traditional Software Development

11.Administrative / Virtual Assistant

12.Freelance Consulting

13.Customer Service

14.Product Sales / Technical Support

15.Patent Agent

The list is exhausting, but not always tangible. Some jobs are too brief, or too infrequent to be financially viable. Others, well, one should never do anything immoral - let's just leave it at that - sermon is over!
