You Can Clean up with Your own Cleaning Business Opportunity

Few people really like to clean - and that's why it's a great business opportunity for those that do - or those that are at least willing to. And those that have busy lives as well as discretionary funds, happily pay others to clean for them.

Types of Cleaning Business Opportunity

The cleaning industry is divided up into two different markets - residential and commercial. Most cleaning businesses focus on one or the other (remember that old maxim about finding your niche? It's one vital ingredient in business success.) Right from the get go you need to decide if your cleaning business opportunity is going to focus on residential (folks who want you to clean their home) or commercial (retailers, office locations, rentals, and so forth.)

This business is not high-tech. It's hard dirty, grimy, sometimes back-achy work. If you're looking for glory and prestige, look elsewhere. But the plus side is that cleaning is a business opportunity you can run from your home, and do so on your own schedule - part of full time. Once you've secured a few initial customers you can count on lots of repeat business - if you and your staff do a good job. That's what's so great about a cleaning business opportunity - things just keep getting dirty over and over again. This is not a one time only service.

Choosing Your Cleaning Business Opportunity Niche

With a cleaning business opportunity you can also control your schedule by choosing your niche. If, for instance, you choose to be strictly residential, you can generally count on working Monday through Friday during the day. Folks that want you to clean do not expect you to be doing so when they are home from work at night - and certainly not on the weekend when they had planned to sleep in.

Once you make the determination how many hours you wish to work you can determine the number of clients you wish to accept. And, there are never enough cleaning services. Place a small classified ad in the local paper's service directory, do a good job, and you'll be well on your way.

You can also pretty much dictate who you're going to accept and how regularly you have to count on your money. If, for example, you are just starting out part time and you're okay with sporadic money you can accept one-time-only business. But many residential cleaning services require that a client commit to at least once a week or once every other week for the opportunity to know what revenue they have coming into their cleaning business regularly.

You may want to offer a one-time only trial cleaning at a discounted rate, and then ask for the commitment before you clean for the client a second time.

If, however, you are going at this whole hog, want as much money as you can get and are willing to put in whatever hours it takes, commercial may be the way to go. Most commercial cleaning (janitorial service) is done at night. The other janitorial specialization, which is one-time only last minute and requires a great deal of flexibility and preparedness, is disaster recovery. But here you can make a whole lot of money, especially since as is often the case you may be getting paid by a government agency or big corporation.
