Things to remember
A simple checklist to walk through before leaving Home:
Defrost the fridge
Check the central heating
Cancel the newspapers
Arrange for the post to be picked up
Make copies of all documents, incl. credit cards, that you will be taking
on your trip. Take with you, obviously not to be kept in same place as the
original documents
Leave copy of above documents, with itinerary of your travels, with a
trusted friend. Also a good idea to leave a spare set of keys
Arrange to have someone check daily on your house/apartment
Go to the dentist, doctor, for a last minute check up.
If you're bringing any special medication with you, a letter from your
doctor can help ease customs inspections. An international driver's license
is also handy, sometimes it's obligatory.
Make spare passport photos
Arrange matters with your bank in event you need emergency funds
Arrange travel insurance, does your insurance cover travel in Europe,
emergencies, travel by car?
Make a list of items you will be packing
Remove half of above items! We do have laundry shops in Europe!
Buy zip lock plastic bags for packing items, you will be surprised at how
much space you will save
Pack a walkman for long train journeys
Pack a novel, exchange later with another traveler
Pack eyeshades, reading glasses, ear plugs, inflatable neck pillow, very
handy! if you think you might need them
Do research beforehand on where you are going, your priorities, etc.
Pack sunglasses, with luck the sun will shine
Money belt, very important, wear hidden under clothes, keep small amount
of money in wallet
Toiletries: Pack sample sizes
Medical: Pack sample sizes of all you think you might need
Needle & thread: good idea, buttons fall off at the most inconvenient
times!
If you are traveling with a back pack, dont pack valuables in this pack,
this is the reason you will need that fanny bag!
CARRY ON LUGGAGE: VERY IMPORTANT
Just imagine your luggage goes astray, what would you need to keep going
without a mental break down for 2 days? Right! Pack these items! Dont
forget your travel documents and itinary
Goes without saying (I hope) your passport is up to date?
Itinerary with confirmations, address & phone numbers of where you will be
staying
Essential medication, keep with your carry on bag
