Heavy Rain across Southwest USA

Heavy rain has continued to fall across much of California and parts of Nevada, courtesy of a large winter depression. More than twice the average December rainfall has fallen in Los Angeles in just 30 hours, totaling 122mm by midday on Wednesday. Las Vegas has seen 22mm fall in 6 hours, the monthly average is just 10mm.

An active cold front has given large rainfall totals as it crossed Bulgaria. The city of Sliven was one of the worst affected places with 42mm falling in 18 hours and 35 mm of this falling in just 6 hours. The average rainfall total at Sliven for December is 64mm.

Rain in Aruba

The island of Aruba, which lies in the Caribbean Sea, has had a wet spell of weather recently. Indeed, Queen Beatrix Airport has seen 35 mm fall in just 6 hours, not far short of the average rainfall for the whole of December which stands at 43mm

Cold in Kars

It has been unseasonally cold in the city of Kars, Turkey. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night, as recorded early Wednesday morning, was minus 21.5 Celsius, some 10 degrees below the average of minus 11.1. Temperatures were struggling to recover today, still 7 degrees below freezing by 1200 GMT and 5 degrees below the average daily maximum for December.

Heavy rain has fallen across parts of Western Australia. Indeed, the town of Warmun has seen 66 mm fall in 24 hours which is more than half the average rainfall for the whole of December which stands at 112 mm.
