What's News

September 15 2002

Have you updated your entry lately?

In the next few weeks a reminder letter or email message will be sent to libraries whose entries in ALG have not been updated recently. From now on, such reminders will be generated on a regular basis to remind libraries to update their information in ALG.

At present there are entries for more than 5,000 libraries in ALG, but unfortunately much of this information is now out of date. For ALG to be an effective directory of Australian Libraries, information presented should be as current as possible, and we rely on ALG participants to ensure that this is the case.

Please take this as an opportunity to update your ALG entry if you have not done so recently. Even if there is no information that requires changing, logging in to your directory entry and pressing the "Submit these updated details" button will refresh the "Last updated" date to show that your details are current.

Help with your password

Email alg@nla.gov.au or telephone 1800 026 155 if you have any problems with your password for online update - or if you would like your parent/library name and/or your parent URL changed.

How you can update your entry -- Online update forms

There are several online update forms available for you to complete or update. Simply select the appropriate form you want to update from the 'Select update form' drop down box:

1. Contact details for ALG updating

This form is for administrative purposes only. Please include the particulars for your library. These details will not be displayed on ALG.

2. General Information

This is for the standard information about your library, such as:

  • name and variations;
  • contact details - address, phone, fax, email, WWW address;
  • the name of the person from your library who will look after the entry.

3. Collection Details

This form provides information about access to your collection, such as:

  • access - URL of web catalogue, telnet address and login;
  • opening hours; and
  • to whom and when your library is available.

4. Subject collecting information

This form has been designed to provide a means to easily record and update information about your collecting levels. ALG subjects have been arranged in broader subject headings, then in sub-categories for more detail, plus a comments field to highlight particular aspects of your collection. Please note the definitions for the ALG collecting levels before assigning collecting levels to your entry.

5. Online Services

This form includes information about access to your library's services, such as:

  • online exhibitions;
  • online reference enquiry services;
  • current events/happenings;
  • additional online directory information; and
  • additional comments.

If you have any problems finding where to enter your details email alg@nla.gov.au or telephone 1800 026 155 for assistance.

Directory of Z39.50 Targets in Australia

This directory is currently undergoing redevelopment. At present, users cannot update their own pages, but ALG Administration staff are happy to create or update entries for you. Please send details to email alg@nla.gov.au or telephone 1800 026 155.

The update facility for this service should be available again within the next few weeks.
