Is Backup Power the Right Choice?

Backup power should be your first and only choice. It comes in too many types not to use something. You can start with the smallest of battery backup power to the largest of generators. If you have a small business, them maybe smaller battery backup is for you. You can hook up a few to several computers. They have the ability to save files and shut down computers in case of an emergency. If the blackout lasts longer than the batteries, your computers will be safe.

Generators come in gasoline and diesel. Of course, they do need a lot of maintenance and regular safety checks. However, if you own a large business or corporation, how would you do without backup power? Think about the options? What if without backup power your entire network goes down? How much damage could it cause? Maybe a lot, maybe very little. At any rate, you have the choice between battery or generator backup power.

Is Backup Power Costly?

Is backup power costly? Actually, you shouldn't be asking that question. You should be asking yourself something else. It should be, what would it cost me without backup power? Imagine a huge power outage like the blackout of 2003. It took several days to restore power to a lot of people and businesses. What if your business was actually popular, but you were on the edge of problems? Any work stoppage could hurt badly. How much money would you lose on that several days?

Now add up the cost of a good backup power supply against the business you would lose? Is it worth the risk to save some money? Don't be like the guy that thought, the power hasn't gone out here in years. It usually happens across the street. Now, after all of the facts are here and in front of you, is backup power costly? Only if you don't buy it and use it. If your power goes out without backup power, then you might be out of business for good.

Backup Power - in Review

An example could be someone trying for years to open a business. Finally, after years of trying, it came at a cost. Money is a bit short and this person has to cut corners. Backup power was on the list, but desperation to have a business removes it from the list. All of you should know where this is going. After a few years of trying to save money, a power outage zips out the entire computer network. A few months later, the business is restarted, but this person experiences a loss of customers.

Business goes on, yet never as good as it was. The competition was able to keep the new customer base and they are doing much better. Think about it? Weigh the cost of backup power versus the loss of business. This person was able to stay in business, but it may not always be that good. Something like that could put a person out of business.
