Secretary Powell (Jan. 4): "[T]he United States will do everything that it can to assist the people of Thailand, as well as the other nations of the region who have suffered as a result of the tsunami that took place last weekend." Status of Tsunami Relief
USAID Assistant Administrator Kunder (Jan. 3): "Resources, in terms of water, medical supplies, food supplies, have reached many major hubs in Colombo, in Bangkok, in the air strips both in Jakarta and in eastern Sumatra, and we are doing what we would normally be doing...so that the relief supplies are getting out to the most isolated regions." U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jon Purnell met with participants of the Community Connections "Islam in a Religiously Diverse United States" program to discuss their 3-week trip to the United States. During the hour-long roundtable meeting, alumni shared their impressions of the U.S. and talked about the effect that the program has had upon their lives.
