This service aims to record and make accessible information about digitisation projects undertaken by Australian cultural organisations. It is site for those working in Australian art galleries, libraries, museums, archives and other public and private institutions who are engaged in cultural projects involving digitisation. Use it to keep up to date with developments in digitisation and to locate other institutions within the country - to share expertise and experience.
Browse the full list of projects to find the names of project managers for advice, or the names of other experts in the field; use the Gateway's 'Advanced search' option to find library 'Digitisation policy' documents online. The Corporate Information Technology Working Group Digitisation Subgroup's 'Principles of digitisation' may also be of interest to you.
The Directory of digitized collections from UNESCO and IFLA, Inventory of Canadian Digital Initiatives from the National Library of Canada, the UK New Opportunities Fund 'nof-digitise.org' site, the All-Wales Digitisation Project Gathering the Jewels, the German Distributed Digital Research Library, ARL Digital Initiatives Database and Coordinating digitisation in Europe : progress report of the National Representatives Group : coordination mechanisms for digitisation policies and programs 2002 are other useful overseas resources.
To contribute and maintain information about digitisation projects, please use the digitisation project reporting form (available in Microsoft Word 2 / Word 7 or Rich Text Format) - then email the details to alg@nla.gov.au or fax 02 6273 1180.
This site builds on the work of the former "digitisation forum online" project which was funded through Australia's Cultural Network (ACN). This project aimed to ensure that information about Australian digitisation projects was accessible from a single place on the Web. While the "digitisation forum online" is no longer available, Arts South Australia and United Focus have provided the National Library of Australia with access to the contents of the site, in order to ensure information is still accessible after the closure of the project.
