Orientation in Paris

Your adventure begins in Paris, the grandest of all French "classrooms." During your three-day orientation, become an expert at negotiating the Metro, visit the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre, and meander down the Champs Elysées, practicing French as you and your group visit local vendors to buy breads, pastries, fruits, and cheeses for a picnic lunch. Feel free to stop and ask for directions as often as you need to… in French, of course!

France and Its Borders

Travel by train to a small French community, where you receive a warm welcome from your host family. Following your 11 day homestay, explore France's eastern or southern frontier as you visit quaint villages along the German or Italian border. Whether it's a stroll through picturesque villages in Alsace or a visit to the beautiful towns of the Cinque Terre on the Mediterranean, you gain incredible insight into France and its neighbors.

Biking in Brittany

Following your two-and-a-half-week homestay, hop on a bike to experience the French countryside up close. You cycle 15 to 30 miles a day, journeying across sheer headlands overlooking fine sand beaches, to medieval towns and majestic castles, and to the Bréhat Islands, where you spend the day snorkeling the crystal waters. Working with a local artist, use your sketch-book, a keen eye, and your French language skills to capture the beauty of the city. Following your homestay, put on a pair of walking shoes and grab your paintbrush as you explore beautiful southeastern France. Walk in the footsteps of Matisse to capture the beauty of Nice while meeting with local artists. Paint the rolling hills which inspired Cezanne's famous Mont Sainte-Victoire or the verdant valleys of Van Gogh's paintings of Arles. Practice the art of Provençal watercolor, explore the Camargue National Park on horseback, canoe down the Verdon Gorges and immerse yourself in the countryside and picturesque villages in one of the most vibrant and colorful regions of France.

Following orientation, travel to Les Gorges du Tarn for two weeks of language classes. Deepen your insight into French culture through a variety of outdoor activities, excursions to medieval towns, and hikes to a local castle. After a two-week homestay, spend the final week in cooking classes at a famous cooking institute in Lyon. By summer's end, you'll be able to communicate effectively in French – and bake your own baguette!
