| In the mornings, I woke up to the smell of jasmine tea and the herbs of the garden wafting through the door. Everything, including the people, food, and weather, had a special character I had never seen. I learned about the French by living like the French. I asked more questions than I ever had in my entire life. I saw the French past the stereotypes. Everything I did taught me another aspect of the people I lived with. I was able to speak, and occasionally mime, my way through two weeks with a French family, and I enjoyed every moment of it. My Khanh Ngo, Rego Park, New York |
