Planning for babies: excitement and exhaustion all rolled into one

There are so many things to consider when you are expecting a baby. It can be one of the most exciting times of your life as well as one of the most confusing. No doubt about it: babies change everything. 

So many questions come to mind – am I having a girl or a boy? What if it is twins? You may also worry about the health of your unborn child and this is normal. There are many medical tests that can tell you, with a fair amount of certainty, the sex of your child, approximate size and weight, and even answer some of your health concerns.

Of course, other issues are easier to deal with and can even be fun, like picking out baby names and researching the meanings of the ones you like. Some baby names can be quite unique and there are books that can give you great ideas for names. And shopping for the nursery is exciting: deciding on a theme, choosing bedding, cribs, and other furniture, and pictures for the wall, among other things. If you or someone you know is planning a baby shower for you, registering for gifts may be a good idea and adds to the excitement. You can register for basic necessities like diapers and baby wipes, bottles and nipples, bibs, clothes, toys and accessories of all kinds, even big ticket items like car seats and strollers. You may even want to coordinate any theme you’ve chosen for the nursery with the shower invitations and favors, and maybe even with the shower games.

Most importantly try to remember that this time goes by very quickly. While it is important to prepare for your baby’s arrival by stocking up on necessities and reading as much as you can about infants, it is also important to relax. In no time at all you’ll be sending out birth announcements and pictures of your newborn!
