Since Steiner makes performance and enhancing optics for various uses, we took the task of making the most natural, color balanced coatings for our birding series very serious. Natural color reproduction is very important because it lets you identify birds and other animals easier, especially when compared to field guides. Brightness is also a very important consideration so you can see in shadows, under branches or in dim light. The Peregrine models feature a broad band coating (BBC) which offers incredible brightness in low-light settings. The Merlin line features similar performance, although not as bright.

"Guns & Ammo Magazine 8/04 Peregrine review... " ( requires Adobe Acrobat )

Unbelievable brightness and very wide field of view. This is the best model for viewing birds flying, in the shade, under trees, or even in the darkness of night. The Peregrine's offer the highest measured broad band transmission of any birding binocular with light transmission over 95% throughout the entire visible color spectrum.

Designed specifically for the most natural color reproduction and the highest possible light transmission over the visible color spectrum, the new Peregrine from Steiner brings birds and wildlife perched in the shadows into a sharp, bright image. Phase corrected and fully multi-coated with Steiner exclusive broadband HD (High Definition) lens coating. The optics of course are only top shelf, and are ground, polished and prepared for your binoculars by Steiner-Germany's master lens makers.

With Steiner's new Peregrine , a new level of brightness and natural color balance is achieved by use of a new dielectric prism coating, by which over 40 layers of titanium oxide and other rare minerals are alternately applied to the glass surfaces. This Broad-Band Coating (BBC) results in superior light transmission performance over a broad range of colors. The Peregrine is also phase corrected for sharpest possible, distortion free images.

The optics of the Peregrine measure higher in spectral light transmission across the entire visible light range, on average, than all of our other closest performance competitors. This means you see colors more vibrantly and you can discover and identify species in more difficult settings and situations.
