Portable Knowledge Asset Development System
(pKADS)
UNFPA's
Knowledge Sharing Strategy recognizes that an organization's experiential
knowledge is a major resource that must be captured, harnessed and
applied for development. UNFPA also recognizes that it is especially
important for countries and communities to be able to capture, synthesize
and apply their own knowledge resources, known as Knowledge Assets,
as well as knowledge from outside sources that is vital for their
own development. Knowledge Assets are living repositories which
can be created, maintained and updated by organizations, governments,
non-governmental organizations and communities. Such Knowledge Assets
can serve to improve results and to inform policy and development
strategies.

Knowledge
Assets are the living repositories of collective know-how.
Knowledge Assets help us to answer three basic questions.
How do I
? Who can I ask for help with
?
Where can I find an example of
?

During the World Summit for the Information Society meeting in
Geneva, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Government
of Ireland will announce the launch of the portable Knowledge Asset
Development System (pKADS). pKADS has been developed jointly
by UNFPA and Business Information Systems, University College Cork,
Ireland, with full funding by the Government of Ireland. pKADS is
a CD-ROM version of UNFPA's in-house on-line Knowledge Asset Development
System (KADS) which is now in use as part of a broad-based organization-wide
Knowledge Sharing Strategy.
