ANGLING NEWS TO FEBRUARY 2ND, 2005 |
Thankfully weather has settled
down significantly since our last report following some severe
flooding. Water levels are now starting to recover well. The
River Suck Valley provided the goods this week with great
Pike fishing for a few parties who braved the winter floods.
Prospects look much better for the coming week. We also take a look back at the past years coarse and pike fishing to see who was
catching what and where. A picture says a 1000 words! TIGHT LINES!
The Irish Specimen Awards
Report for 2004 is now published. A total of 12 River caught specimen
pike
were verified by the Irish Specimen Fish Committee in 2004, 10
of these were from the Shannon Fisheries Region, with most
caught on two of the Board's Managed Fisheries and prime angling waters - The River Suck and River Inny.

the Salmon fishing season has just commenced and we hope to have some
news for the opening few days in next weeks report. The Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association
AGM will take place in the Greville Arms Hotel on Sunday 6th February at 2-30pm - see Mick

SALMON FISHING LICENCES AND ShRFB FISHING PERMITS NOW ON
SALE ONLINE FOR 2005 SEASON
The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board wish to notify anglers
that they can now order and pay online for either or both Salmon fishing licence
or a fishing permit for the coming season, 2005. TIGHT LINES for 2005

THE RIVER SHANNON WATERS - WORKING
TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE - Seminar September 23, 2004
The crucial need to protect and
restore Ireland’s rivers and lakes from the ravages caused by a
booming economy were underlined at a highly successful seminar
organised by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board in Limerick on
September 23. The seminar, “The River Shannon
Waters – Working together for the Future”, brought together a panel
of top level speakers from at home and abroad to discuss actions
that need to be taken to ensure good quality waterways and water
animal, fish and plant life.
CONSERVATION OF SALMON AND SEA TROUT BYE LAW NO 797, 2004
INTRODUCED FROM SEPTEMBER 1st
The Minister of state at the Department of
Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Mr John Browne has made
the above Bye-Law, copies of which are available on the Departments
website www.dcmnr.ie or download in word by clickig on the headline
link. This Bye-Law provides for a bag limit of 1 fish being either a
salmon or Sea Trout per angler per day from 1 September, 2004 to
31st December, 2004.

The very popular FIN Newsletter, launched in 2000 is
produced by the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards, Editor Mr
Eamon Cusack CEO ShRFB. It covers a wide range of topics of
Fisheries and Environmental interest at national and regional level,
and publishes each of the Boards special projects and makes for
other interesting reading.
FISH STOCK ASSESSMENT REPORT ON THE
RIVER SHANNON BETWEEN ROOSKEY AND DRUMSNA AVAILABLE
Following reports of declining fish stocks in the
Drumsna and Roosky section of the River Shannon the Shannon Regional
Fisheries Board commissioned the Central Fisheries Board to
undertake an assessment of fish stocks in the area. This report can
