Bald
Head Island Fishing
Fishing on Bald Head Island can
be accomplished in several different ways. From fly fishing for red drum at Frying
Pan Shoals, making a 60-mile run to the blue waters of the gulf stream for tuna and
marlin, drifting for king mackerel in the Cape Fear Channel, or bass fishing in the
lagoons around the golf course, Bald Head Island is home to some of the best fishing on
the East Coast. There are several highly recommended charter fishing outfits from
Bald Head Island harbor. Reasonable rates and friendly personalities will make your
fishing day one to remember. Bald Head Island kicks off its summer season in style
featuring the "Fishing Rodeo."
Surf fishing becomes
"hot" in April and May. East beach becomes a great prospect for
catching red drum, pompano and bluefish. West beach and the marina are a favorite
spot to catch flounder, blue fish and red drum. During the Fall, King Mackerel is at
its peak season. Hundreds of fishing competitors join in to win the U.S. Open King
Mackerel Tournament in October. Check our tide tables for the best times
to fish.
