CONCORD, N.C. (October 11, 2004) -- There is a story behind every Sam Bass creation. A tale of how each illustration came about and exactly what the artist is conveying through the strokes of his brush.
Sam's new book, "The NASCAR Art of Sam Bass," goes behind the scenes with motor racing's most celebrated artist to give fans an insider's look into the mindset that spawned some of his most compelling compositions. The book is punctuated with dozens of full color images of many of Sam's most popular works accompanied by an in-depth commentary on each. It not only chronicles his original paintings and limited edition prints, but also other collectibles he has designed over the years, including trading card sets and custom shop guitars. Published by David Bull Publishing, "The NASCAR Art of Sam Bass" was co-written by Sam himself and noted author Brad Bowling. It's Sam's story, told in his own words. This is the only publication to chronicle the career of the first artist officially licensed by NASCAR. "Compiling this book, the writing and selecting the images to include was an amazing project for me," commented Bass. "I was constantly reminded during the process of how fortunate I am to have the career I have, and how many great people I have worked with along the way. NASCAR, the drivers, the sponsors, and the fans have offered me tremendous support and encouragement, allowing me to live my dream. The book reflects nearly 20 years of colorful memories." FAST FORWARD A poignant foreword by H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, sets the stage for the publication - outlining Sam's expansive influence throughout the depth and breadth of the racing world. Sam's own introduction to the book covers the early days of his career and the forging of his longstanding relationships with veterans Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace and the legendary Dale Earnhardt as well as an overview of his techniques and the business side of art in NASCAR.
