  Wine Regions

Hungary is a land of wine delicacies with several hundred years of traditions how to produce and how to consume good wines. The wine-producing regions of Hungary have excellent agricultural-ecological features that have yet to be fully exploited in the domestic wine industry. Join us on the Wine Routes across the numerous Wine Producing Areas, and discover the cold and secretful air of old wine cellars that are guarding the precious nectars of long-gone summers.

Just to mention a few well-known Wine Regions:

Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region
Taste the world-famous Tokaj Aszú, the "Wine of the Kings, King of the Wines", and visit the vineyards and cellars that produce this speciality of the Hungarian Wine Culture. In this region you will find only white wine, characteristically heavy, thick wines with high acid content. Since 2002, the Tokaj Wine Region is the Treasure of all Humanity, being on the List of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Eger wine region
If you plan to visit Eger - a town where history, wine producing and brevity accompany the friendliest hospitality - try the taste of the Eger Bull's Blood, a unique red wine made by combining several types of red wine-grapes. Visit the Valley of the Beautiful Woman with its cellar row built in the rocks, and try to find the secret of satisfaction in the bright red colour of the local wines. Although the region is famous for its red wines, you'll find significant white wine production as well.

Villány-Siklósi wine region
Do not miss the Mediterranean climate of the Villány Wine Region, where small villages have been keeping the secrets of good wines since the Middle Ages. The wine specialities of Villány have never lost their popularity - the Wine Masters of this regions have been continuously winning on many National and International Wine Competitions. Red-wines in Villány are full-bodied, heavy and are characterized by high alcohol content and especially high tannin content.

Badacsony wine region
Discover the Hill of Badacsony on the northern shore of the Lake Balaton, and feel it in the air how the sunshine collects the wonderful energy in the grapes of the endless vine-yards. The Badacsony wine-growing region is no doubt a region for white, full-bodied wine with high extract and alcohol content, so if you prefer it to red wines, don't hesitate to visit one of the numerous cellars built in baroque, classicist or folk style.

Sopron wine region
In the surrounding of the beautiful town of Sopron you can also enjoy the hospitality of the famous wine cellars, where you can taste vivid fresh white wines as well as red wines with strong acid and tannin content.

Mátraalja wine region
If you like white wine, this is the place to come! White wines grown here are fresh, rich in aroma and scent, have good acids and high alcohol content and they are full-bodied in certain years.

Szekszárd wine region
Szekszárd is famous for most of all its full-bodied, fiery red wines, but if you desire to gust a lighter one, you'll find here fresh rose wines as well.
