ABOUT THE ADS AT COOKSRECIPES.COM

Or, Why Banner Advertising Is Used. - by Hope Pryor

I am a self-employed entrepreneur and CooksRecipes.com is my online business. Unlike other well-known and comparable recipe sites, this site is not run by a large corporation, nor is there a staff of employees sharing the workload. I work alone and receive no outside help, financial or otherwise, to support, maintain and expand this online cooking and recipe resource.

Advertising is the main source of funding for free Internet resources such as CooksRecipes.com. Membership and/or fees are not required in order for a visitor to access the 12,000+ recipes and numerous other features. The second or two it takes to click off a pop-up ad is a small "fee" to ask visitors in exchange for access and use of the site.

The ads are hosted by two ad network providers, FastClick.com, and MaxOnline. I agree that some advertiser's tactics can be misleading*, too flashy, and/or excessively aggressive. Unfortunately, its the squeaky wheel that gets the most attention and the same goes for the annoying flashy ads because they get the attention and the desired click-throughs from visitors that the advertisers want. The best advice I can give regarding such ads is that you complain directly to the specific advertiser who uses such ads. Maybe it will inspire them to rethink how they design their advertising campaigns.

Lastly, I would like to personally thank you for taking the time to read this explanation. Advertising keeps this site online and allows me to continue working full-time in its management. Your understanding and support is most appreciated.

* Examples of misleading ads are those proclaiming "you are the 1,000,000th visitor to this site" (actually, the 1,000,000th visitor to CooksRecipes.com occurred some time ago), or ads that state such claims as, "Warning. Important message from the publisher of this site!" (not this publisher).

TIP FOR FLASHING BANNER ADS: When the banner ad at the top of the page is too flashy and interferes with your browsing enjoyment, you can always scroll the web page down a bit to eliminate it from your view.

Click for Tip on Printing Recipe without the banner ads and links.
