Pre-Angkor:  Funan  |  Chenla  Java Invasion  Birth of Angkor

The continuous invasions of Java Empire from the sea along the coastal area had laid a significant impact on Chenla and the region. Unable to combat the mighty Java troops, the Khmers had to move gradually westward inland and finally settled on the plain around the northwest of Tonle Sap Lake which was where the Angkor Civilization would be established and became flourished for many centuries.
