BLACK BEARS

British Columbia has the largest BLACK BEAR population in North America and Vancouver Island is a concentrated version of the entire province. Game department records show that Vancouver Island has produced more successful BLACK BEAR hunts than anywhere else in British Columbia.

Hunts are conducted in both the spring and the fall using "spot and stalk" tactics from pick-up trucks and boats. Spring bears can often be spotted feeding on new growth and vegetation near old logging roads and river mouth estuaries. Fall bears can be found by streams of spawning salmon and high mountain berry patches. Our bear hunts boast a 98% success rate on mature boars 10 yrs of age, with hides over 6 feet square.
