An Evening with Bob Weir and Ratdog Price: $25, $27, $35, $40 Date: 2/6/2005 Time: 8:00 PM Venue: House of Blues
Some old dogs keep trying new tricks. Music vet Bob Weir continues to explore new aspects of his sound with his ongoing side project Ratdog. They come to Mandalay Bay's House of Blues.
A one-time member of the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir has done enough in the music business that he could probably place a bust of himself onstage, play a recorded track of his own music, and still make fans happy.
Choosing instead to keep exploring his musical muse, Weir continues to jive and jam, expanding his legacy through solo work and with his well-known collaborative project Ratdog.
Born out of a creative partnership between Weir and bassist Rob Wasserman, Ratdog eventually brought in pianist Jeff Chimenti, guitarist Marc Karan, drummer Jay Lane, and saxophonist Kenny Brooks. Wasserman left the band in 2003, and was replaced by Robin Sylvester.
While the members bring together varied musical backgroundssome heavy on jazz, some blues, some psychedelic, some rockeach brought a willingness to explore. It all comes together in Ratdog's mix of psychedelic jams with jazz and blues, the end result forming a bona fide musical odyssey.
