Banking code
The Banking Code is a voluntary code of practice, which sets down minimum standards of service for customers relating to the standard of information we offer, security, and the way in which we operate our accounts.

We abide by the Banking Code which sets out standards for dealing fairly with you and giving you the information you need to choose and run your accounts.

Where Can I Get a Copy?

A copy of the Banking Code is available free on request by calling us. Or you can download a copy from the British Bankers' Association website.

What is the Banking Code?

The Banking Code sets the minimum standards of service that personal customers can expect from all banks and building societies which subscribe to the Code.

What the Code Covers

The Code makes 4 key promises or commitments to customers about the way in which products and services are provided.

The Code covers the responsibilities of banks and building societies and what you can expect in connection with:

  • information about your accounts, changes affecting your accounts and choosing products and services
  • how your accounts operate, your cards, PINs, and any lending and foreign exchange transactions
  • protection for all your personal information, your accounts, your cheque book, cards, electronic purses, PINs and passwords
  • difficulties and what can be done if you find yourself in financial difficulties, or you wish to complain to your bank or building society or to the independent Banking or Building Society Ombudsmen

Who produces it?

The Banking Code is published by the British Bankers' Association, The Building Societies Association and Association for Payment Clearing Service.
