Atapupu
Some
of the TOP Hotels in Bali
Bali's
most famous and crowded resort is Kuta beach, a six-kilometre
sweep of golden sand, with plenty of accommodation,
shops and nightlife. Nearby Sanur is much quieter, but
most backpackers prefer the beaches of peaceful east-coast
Candi Dasa and traveller-oriented Lovina on the north
coast. The island's other major destination is the cultural
centre of Ubud , a still charming but undeniably commercialized
overgrown village, where traditional dances are staged
every night of the week and the streets are full of
arts-and-crafts galleries.

On
a narrow bay extending deep inland, 20 km from Atambua
which is on the border to east Timor. One of Timor's
busiest cattle ports. Mentioned on Riberiro's world
map of 1529. Sleep at the stasiun polisi. from Atapupu:
A boat leaves at least once weekly for Kupang or other
destinations such as Roti, Sawu, Sumbawa, Lombok, and
Surabaya, etc. If you're lucky you'll find a boat all
the way to Bali via Kupang. Kupang is about a 2 day
busride from Atapupu. To Atambua it's Rp150 by bus.
There's an Indonesian check point and a couple of good
losmens in Atambua. Though there's no entry now into
eastern Timor, Atambua is a more pleasant town to hang
around in than Atapupu. Stay at Losmen Sahabat.
