TRADITIONAL COTTAGE WITH GLORIOUS VIEWS AND PRIVATE FISHING LAKE - NEAR ROCHECHOUART.
Traditional Cottage (fermette) dating from the late 19th Century set in the small hamlet of Le Poulier within the Perigord/Limousin Natural Park. The region is heavily forested (mainly oak and sweet chestnut) and is renowned for the abundant and varied wildlife. Accomodation comprises - kitchen, sitting room, three bedrooms (two double and one with bumk beds suitable for children or teenagers) and two shower rooms. The fermette is fully equipped including washer, gas cooker, mocrowave, wood burning fire and electric radiators. Exposed beams and wooden floors are a feature. Land extends to almost five acres and includes a fishing lake, which is well stocked including carp (up to 12kg), roach, pike and perch. Some of the terrain has been turned over to wild-life havens and many songbirds, frogs, toads and salamanders can be seen. It is a real pleasure, on summer evenings, to sit outside listening to the 'evening chorus'. There are resident kingfishers, buzzards and herons. Deer, foxes, polecats and pine martens visit regularly as do flocks of house martins performing aerial acrobatics as they swoop to drink from the lake. The owners, who live next door in a converted barn, have a number of animals including dogs, cats, chickens and geese. The closest town is Rochechouart, which is charming with cobbled streets, a castle and museums open to the public. There are many other castles close by including Chalus where Richard the Lionheart was fatally wounded. In fact, the cottage is situated about 100metres from the 'Coeur de Lion' route, which follows the path Richard took collecting supporters for the great cusades. There are several swimming lakes with beaches in the area, the closest being at St Mathieu approximately 4 miles away. The whole region is well known for peace, tranquility and friendliness. It is often called 'the France that time forgot'. |
